York County’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to assist eligible households pay for winter energy services. LIHEAP will provide a one-time winter benefit for their energy bills. The benefit amount is determined by the household size, income, and heating fuel type.
A past due bill or disconnection notice is not required. Both homeowners and renters may apply. Assistance is available for natural gas, propane, kerosene, wood, wood pellets, heating oil and electricity. In some instances, even though heat and electricity are included in the rent, the household may be eligible for assistance.
Emergency assistance may be available for households whose heating and/or electric service is disconnected due to the inability to pay for the service. Emergency furnace repair or replacement is also available for eligible homeowners.
York County’s Energy Assistance Program operates between September and May.
