Owning A Home

Homebuyer Education

Purchasing a home is most likely the largest investment you will make. We offer two programs to assist with this process:

Our 10-hour Homebuyer Education class, offered monthly, provides honest, accurate information about homeownership, and prepares individuals for the steps in the home-buying process.  Participants earn a Certificate of Completion that is required by ME Housing, USDA Rural Development and other lenders who offer low down-payment mortgage options.

The class covers such topics as:

  • Are you ready to buy?
  • Budgeting for homeownership
  • Building credit
  • Low down-payment mortgage options
  • Working with a realtor
  • Home inspections
  • Preparing for the closing
  • And more...!

We also provide free, one-on-one pre-and post-purchase counseling to help individuals with budgeting, credit and other issues related to buying a home.

NOTE: Classes sometimes sell out, and registration closes 24 hours before class. Do not wait to register for a class.

YCCAC is committed to excellence in homebuyer education and is proud to be a HUD-Certified Housing Counseling Agency.

Key Features of eHome America

Sometimes an individual's schedule makes it difficult to attend YCCAC's Homeownership Education Classes in person.  Another option is to complete the eHome America Online Homebuyer Education course.

eHome America offers videos and easy-to-read materials for all covered content, including highlighted keywords and quizzes throughout the course to ensure you understand the material.

Plus, you will have instant access to YCCAC's Housing Counselor.  When you have completed the course, you will schedule a follow-up session with the Counselor, who will help you take the next steps towards homeownership.

Who Should Take this Course?

Homebuyer education is beneficial for anyone who is looking to become more educated about homeownership.  However, completing a Homebuyer Education course is particularly important if you are:

  • A first-time homebuyer;
  • A borrower who needs Homebuyer Education certification in order to qualify for a loan;
  • A homebuyer working with a local Homeownership Counselor.
